This year is the 20th anniversary of his US Olympic Trials Marathon Qualifier and Baystate Marathon event record that still holds, 2:21:36. Read the article in the Lowell Sun (by Barry Scanlon).

Dave will be competing for the CMS senior team on Sunday at the Baystate Marathon. The Central Mass Striders expect to have up to 20 men racing on Sunday.

CMS teams at Lone Gull 10K

The Central Mass Striders (CMS) men's racing team competed in the USATF New England 10K Championship, hosted in Gloucester, MA at the Lone Gull 10K. This was race number six for the 2018 USATF New England Road Race Grand Prix. A clear blue sky and sun greeted runners with comfortable fall temperatures in the low 60's at the 9AM start. 

The CMS open team finished 5^th, men’s masters and seniors both finishing 2^nd overall in a very competitive event. Scott Mindel led the open team, Patrick Rich led the masters (1^st 40+ overall) and scored down into the open team, and Tim Van Orden led the Seniors. Jack Delehanty from Worcester made is CMS debut for the open team.

One last Grand Prix road race remains with the Baystate Marathon concluding the series for 2018 in October.

CMS races through Providence at the USATF New England 5K Championship

The Central Mass Striders took on the USATF New England Road Race Grand Prix 5K Championship in downtown Providence, RI on Sunday morning under sunny skies. 

The Open team placed 4^th out of 16 teams. CMS packed the top four open runners in order with Scott Mindel (19th), Scott Leslie (20th), Pat Fullerton (21st), and Adam Malek (22nd) were together into the finish - just a second in between each CMS singlet. 

Patrick Rich was the top CMS master runner and 5th scorer for the open team. He would help the masters team place 1^st out of 10 teams. Tim Van Orden ran with Nat Larson (Greater Springfield) throughout the race. In the end, Tim would edge his competition to win the 50-54 age group. His senior team would place 2^nd out of 8 teams, behind Nat's Greater Springfield Harriers. 

Tim Van Orden (50-54) and Steve Brightman (45-59) were age group winners. Patrick Rich was 2nd in his age group (40-44).

CMS masters at GBTC XC Festival

The CMS Men's Masters team lined up for the first cross country race in the USATF New England Cross Country Grand Prix at Elm Bank in Wellesley, MA. The team won the masters race in 2015. Arthur Besse led the team by placing 4th overall with a time of 17:26. David Principe, running over ten miles before the race, finished 6th overall clocking in 18 minutes flat. James Pawlicki and Nick Taormina battled back and forth to finished 10th (18:21) and 12th (18:35) respectively.

CMS circles Lake Massabesic in USATF 10 mile championship

The Central Mass Striders open team placed 3^rd overall at the NH10 mile which was the USATF New England Championship in Auburn, NH. Dan Vassallo led the charge with a 9^th place finish. The masters and senior teams placed 1^st overall. The masters team was led by Patrick Rich who placed 24^th overall. Tim Van Orden paced the Seniors placing 56^th overall.

The teams will continue the New England Grand Prix tour in September with the Downtown 5K in Providence, RI and the Lone Gull 10K in Gloucester, MA.
