CMS wins USATF New England 5K road race championship

The men’s open team placed first overall out of fourteen teams at the Rhody 5K in Lincoln, RI. Twin River Casino played host to the USATF New England 5K Road Race Championship as it has in the past. CMS narrowly edged Team Run by six seconds and the Boston Athletic Association by 11 seconds. CMS was led by Bob Wiles who finished 7^th overall in 15:18. He was followed by Nick Crowell, running his first race for the team, in 15:24 in 11^th place overall, earning coveted individual points in the Grand Prix Series. Alan Bernier, team manager, was the 3^rd scoring member, placing 15^th in 15:33. Andy McCarron and Greg Hammett finished off the team scoring by placing 23^rd and 24^th with times of 15:44 & 15:45.

The men’s masters team finished 2^nd overall in the masters category behind Whirlaway Racing and ahead of the Somerville Road Runners. Greg Putnam led the charge, placing 39^th overall (15:59), and 5^th in the overall masters age division. George Adams also gained individual USATF New England points placing 9^th in the age category. Joe Shairs, Dave Dunham, and Dan Verrington followed in the following 29 seconds to round out the five scoring members for the masters.
