CMS Masters win 40+ at USATF National 10K Road Race Championship in Dedham

The Central Mass Striders men’s masters team won the 40+ team competition at the USATF National Masters 10K Championship in Dedham, MA. The James Joyce Ramble and Dedham has hosted the championship in recent years. Nine 40+ teams competed. CMS placed 7 runners in the top 26 places and 3 in the top 13 to take the team win over solid teams from the BAA, Garden State Track Club, Atlanta Track Club, HFC Striders, et cetera.

The early morning rain let up as the runners started the race at 11AM. CMS had 7 runners finish the race and was led by Patrick Rich of South Hamilton who finished 2^nd overall in 33:02, a half minute behind winner David Angell who took the CMS team photo below. Next to cross the line for CMS was Greg Putnam who placed 10^th overall (3^rd age group) and a net time of 34:19. Michael Quintal was three seconds back in 13^th place (6^th age group). Derrick Jones was the 4^th CMS runner running 34:33 placing 15^th overall (4^th age group). Joshua Perks followed in 19^th place (9^th age group) with a time of 35:16. Joe Shairs placed 19^th and a time of 35:51. David Principe broke 36 minutes (35:57) and placed 26^th overall and 6^th in the 50-54 age group.

CMS open and masters place 1st in Narragansett, RI

The Central Mass Striders took two first place team finishes at the Bobby Doyle Summer Classic 5 mile road race in Narragansett, RI. The open and masters teams were led by Josh Perks who ran a time of 28:40 on the rolling seaside course that differed from the 2015 and 2016 USATF New England Championship course. The course reverted back to a prior design that some participants felt was quicker. A flurry of CMS singlets trailed Josh. Robert Jackman crossed the line six seconds behind. Joe Shairs and David Principe followed five and six seconds later. Kevin Gorman scored as the 5^th man 8 seconds later running 29 minutes flat. The top five open men finished within 20 seconds of each other. Nakri Dao ran a personal best with a time of 31 minutes. Four men secured age group placings: Josh placing 2^nd in the 40-49, Joe Shairs placed 3^rd in the 40-49, David Principe 1^st in the 50-59, and Martin Tighe 3^rd in the 50-59.

CMS men strike gold and silver at USA Mountain Running Championships

Every second counts. This was evident over the weekend where the CMS Men’s Open team lost to the Gate City Striders by three seconds in North Conway, NH. Sunday hosted the USA Mountain Running Championships at Cranmore Mountain. Three laps were contested which started and finished at the top. While five men score for the open, three do so for the masters. This allowed the CMS masters team to trade places and take the gold in that category. The masters team was led by Dave Dunham who trekked the course in 1:06:21. He was the second master in the race and 25^th overall. Tim Van Orden (36^th overall) and Paul Bazanchuk (62^nd overall) rounded out the scoring for CMS which outpaced Gate City by almost four minutes for the gold in the masters team score.

The open team was led by Patrick Rich who had a time of 1:02:58. He was 15^th overall and 12th American. Dave, Tim, and Paul scored down into the open. David Lapierre, also a master, rounded out the scoring for the open team.
