Patrick Rich paced the CMS Masters Team to a 2^nd place finish at the USATF National Masters Road Championship 10K in Dedham, MA via host James Joyce Ramble. Patrick finished in a gun time order of 7^th place. Greg Putnam and Tim Van Orden came in 2nd and 3rd for the masters team. Tim placed 2^nd in the 50-54 age group. Josh Perks and Joe Shairs finished 4^th and 5^th for CMS. Joe Shairs placed 3^rd in the 50-54 age group. All five CMS runners finished in the top 19 overall.

CMS Masters win 40+ at USATF National 10K Road Race Championship in Dedham

The Central Mass Striders men’s masters team won the 40+ team competition at the USATF National Masters 10K Championship in Dedham, MA. The James Joyce Ramble and Dedham has hosted the championship in recent years. Nine 40+ teams competed. CMS placed 7 runners in the top 26 places and 3 in the top 13 to take the team win over solid teams from the BAA, Garden State Track Club, Atlanta Track Club, HFC Striders, et cetera.

The early morning rain let up as the runners started the race at 11AM. CMS had 7 runners finish the race and was led by Patrick Rich of South Hamilton who finished 2^nd overall in 33:02, a half minute behind winner David Angell who took the CMS team photo below. Next to cross the line for CMS was Greg Putnam who placed 10^th overall (3^rd age group) and a net time of 34:19. Michael Quintal was three seconds back in 13^th place (6^th age group). Derrick Jones was the 4^th CMS runner running 34:33 placing 15^th overall (4^th age group). Joshua Perks followed in 19^th place (9^th age group) with a time of 35:16. Joe Shairs placed 19^th and a time of 35:51. David Principe broke 36 minutes (35:57) and placed 26^th overall and 6^th in the 50-54 age group.

CMS masters take 3rd at USATF National Masters 10K - James Joyce Ramble

The Central Mass Striders masters team attended the USATF National Masters 10K Road Race Championship hosted by the James Joyce Ramble in Dedham, MA on Sunday. The team placed third in a competitive field that saw the BAA place first followed by the Atlanta Track Club. CMS got the nod over Whirlaway with the tie breaker.  Both teams, which score three, had an average time of 34:53 per runner.

Gregory Putman led CMS with a 6^th place finish overall (2^nd in his 5 yr age group) with a net time of 33:12. Joshua Perks and David Principe placed 26^th and 27^th with times of 35:39 and 35:44. They were followed by Kevin Gorman, who placed 34^th with a time of 36:03. Larry Morris placed 208^th with a time of 53:39

Meanwhile the Central Mass Men’s open runners also competed. Scott Mindel, two weeks removed from his Boston Marathon, placed 4^th overall, with a net time of 32:15. Chris Mahoney, who awaits his 40^th birthday and master career, placed 11^th with a time of 33:56.

The Central Mass Striders men's masters team placed 2nd overall in the USATF National Masters 10K Championship in Dedham, MA - James Joyce Ramble. There were two races. The men's masters championship race started first. The open race started about five minutes later. Greg Putnam from Stoneham, MA led the way for the CMS masters team with a 3rd place finish. Tim Van Orden just missed breaking 34 minutes and placed 10th overall. Joshua Perks rounded out the scoring for CMS who had an average time of 34:14 between the three masters runners who finished behind BAA and ahead of the Atlanta Track Club in the 40+ USATF team scoring. All three teams have been on the podium several times since the race began to host the 10K championship. Joe Shairs and Dan Verrington (50+) both broke 36 minutes.

Meanwhile, the open men, did not have a team category to chase as the masters team did. However, CMS placed 4 men in the top 13 overall. Nate Jenkins and Dan Vassallo broke 31 minutes and placed 3rd and 4th respectively. Scott Mindel broke 31:30 and Eric Narcisi was well under 33 minutes. Kevin Gorman is back and healthy, breaking 36 minutes.

CMS finds Silver at the USATF National Masters 10K Championship

The Central Mass Striders men's masters and senior teams placed 2nd and 4th respectively at the USATF National Masters 10K road race championship in Dedham, MA via James Joyce Ramble. Joe Shairs led the masters team with an 8th place finish. Dan Verrington led the Senior team with a 25th place finish.
