CMS Takes Team Title in USATF-NE GPS Event #3
Fyffe Kills It; Wiles Not Too Shabby
The CMS Polar Bears brought their A-game to Bedford, NH on Saturday morning for the 36th Annual Bedford 12k. Up front, Justin Fyffe ran an incredible race to notch his first GP victory. He did so in convincing fashion. He squashed the CR. The 30 yr old Vermonter ran with a small pack through 3 miles and then gapped the field for the win. The finishing lap on the track amounted to nothing more than a victory lap for Fyffe. In modest fashion, however, the harrier did not even raise his arms in victory as he broke the tape. Check out the video for proof. Not to be overshadowed was Bob Wiles' performance. The Maine-iac was the 5th runner to cross the line and kept the overall team time low. His race helped cover the two times put in by the BAA guys that also ran in the top 5. CMS put 3 runners in the top 10. Andy McCarron, coming off a 7 Sisters victory, placed 9th. Next up, Kevin Gorman in 14th and Mike Quintal in 16th. These guys will likely battle each other for the rest of the GPS series (which is good for CMS). Greg Hammett and Al Bernier rounded out the top 7 for the team. These two tracksters are fast (check their NB 1/2 times, for example) and will likely do major damage at the next GPS event. Dan Navaroli, Dave Quintal, and Jim Pawlicki were 8-9-10 for CMS. If you don't think this squad is deep, you're wrong. These guys would be in the top 5 for most teams. Interesting note: Dan, making his 2010 GPS debut, ran the race in Curt Schilling style. His sneaker and sock were oozing blood at the finish line. Nice. Eleventh man: Jeff Goupil. Goupil is young and a tad crazy. He doubled up and ran the 5k too. Coolest part of this race: team camaraderie. Everyone was very supportive of one another. A real sense of team. Can’t wait for the next one. See you in RI for the 5k…and by the way, we left two guns in the holster this weekend: Johnson and Tilton.
