Unofficial, preliminary results below
CMS Open and CMS Veterans (60+) placed 3rd while
the CMS Masters (40+) and CMS Seniors (50+) placed 1st overall at
the 2019 USATF New England Grand Prix 5K Championship in Westfield on Saturday.
The Westfield Fast 5K was the 3rd event within the 7 race series for the year. The
next event will take place in Shelburne Falls, MA on August 10th
with the Bridge of Flowers 8K.
The open team had three runners break 15 minutes for the 3rd place CMS open team. CMS was led
by Pat Fullerton with an 11th place, 14:47.6. Dan Vassallo (14:49.8)
and Adam Malek (14:55.5) both dipped under 15 minutes with their 14th
and 17th placings. Scott Mindel, weeks off his 2:27 Pittsburgh
Marathon, ran 15:05.9 for 20th place, six seconds off his time in
Westfield in 2018 . DJ Raboin capped the scoring for the open team with his 27th
place, 15:26. BAA placed 2ndst behind WMDP. 13 teams competed in the
open division.
Senior, Tim Van Orden nearly broke 16 with a 16:00.6
clocking to lead the 1st place CMS Masters team over 2nd
place Dirigo RC and HFC. Greg Putnam (16:09.5), Patrick Rich (16:23.2), Arthur Besse (16:44.9), and Joe Shairs (16:50.9)
rounded out the scoring for the 40+ team who outpaced Dirigo RC and HFC by over
two minutes where 11 teams competed.
Beyond Tim and Joe, David Principe also broke 17 minutes
with a 16:56.6 for the 1st place senior team. Dave Dunham and David
Lapierre would score out the top five for the 50+ team who edged HFC and WRT.
Paul Bazanchuk came back to his former hometown to lead the
Veterans team (60+) to a 3rd place team behind GLRR and SMAC with
his 20:07.7 performance. Running his 3rd GP in as many in 2019, Stephen
Drouin ran 21:20.1. Vin Garofoli made his USATF New England Grand Prix debut
with a 21:52.0 time.
